Alpine Conveyor
The fully Automatic Tin Plate Loader shown above was designed and built by
STEEL MASTER TRANSFER, INC. for an automotive piston supplier. The pistons travel
at a rate of 2600 parts per hour and are conveyed on the STEEL MASTER TRANSFER, INC. patented extruded aluminum conveyor into the piston loader. The loader is 3
lanes wide and 7 parts deep. The piston carriers receive the piston 21 pieces at a time.
When the carrier is loaded, an overhead monorail transfers the carrier through a
multi-stage wash and plating operation. When the pistons are cleaned and plated,
they are then removed by a piston unloader (not shown) designed and built by STEEL
MASTER TRANSFER, INC. The alpine conveyor shown is used to store pistons off-line
should the tin plater need maintenance. This system which required elevators,
lowerators, weight scales, inspection loops, incline conveyors, overhead conveyors
and a 6500 part cold room conveyor unit was unique in that parts could not touch
each other once they had been machined except in the tin plate carriage. Parts were
conveyed through the entire system without the use of gravity units or part pallets.
